Japan's index of tertiary industry activity for August increased a seasonally adjusted 1.3 percent over the previous month. Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry report says industries contributing to the increase included the Wholesale and Retail Trade group, Electricity, Gas, Heat Supply and Water, Eating and Drinking places, Accommodations, Finance and Insurance, Transportation, Information and Communications. Industries causing the index to be lower included Services, Learning Support, Real Estate, Medical, Health care and Welfare and Compound Services. The Tertiary Industry Index evaluates the monthly change in output produced by Japan's service sector, with its primary focus on the domestic rather than export sector.
