The number of short-term visitor arrivals in Australia decreased a seasonally adjusted 1.0 percent in January when compared to the month before. The Australian Bureau of Statistics also reported Thursday that its trend estimates showed January arrivals 1.3 percent lower than in January of 2007. Short term visits to Australia totaled a seasonally adjusted 463,700 in January, compared to December's 468,600. This followed a monthly increase of 2.3 percent for November 2007 and a monthly decrease of 0.8 percent for December of '07. The statistics agency also reported that short-term overseas visits by Australians increased 0.5 percent compared to December.
